- The firm’s software is mostly used as a diary.
- Templates and steps were never configured.
- Everyone keeps their own spreadsheets next to the tool.
A step comes at the wrong moment.
2025 · French business law firm · 4 partners · about 1,300 documents a year
Several vendors had offered to automate document production, but no solution had been tested on the firm’s real work. A standard document took 18 minutes, and every one needed manual rework of the template. One associate spent over 40 minutes reworking a document from information already entered in an internal form.
We started with the process, not the tool. Four document families, most of the volume, go through a structured form, generation rules, a check and archiving, in Microsoft 365, Word and Power Automate. Documents that vary too much keep a human approval. A standard document went from 18 to 5 minutes, about 450 hours a year given back to the firm, without a full legaltech platform.
A practice management system or AI tool, once bought, is often half used. It finds its place when the matter steps it must carry are described before it is configured.
Matter workflow described before configuration, go-live on real matters.
