Find the right precedent without hunting for it

The right precedent sits in one partner’s memory.

You will recognise it
  1. A useful precedent exists, but nobody knows where.
  2. What was already written is drafted from scratch.
  3. Know-how leaves with the associate who leaves the firm.

Information scatters along the way.

On an engagement

2024 · French business law firm · 12 partners · 35 associates

The firm had many precedents, notes and templates, scattered across four spaces and in partners’ personal folders. Finding a useful resource took about 18 minutes, and 37% of priority documents had no clear context of use. An associate drafted a note while a close analysis already existed, simply impossible to find.

Rather than migrate 6,000 documents, we organised knowledge by subject, situation, precedent, template and approval level, in SharePoint and Microsoft Search. Only the resources actually used were qualified: owner, date, jurisdiction, confidence level. Finding a relevant resource went from 18 to 6 minutes, and search entry points from four to one.

What changes

The precedent often exists, but in an inbox or in a partner’s memory. A useful knowledge base is built from real matters and kept up to date with them.

What we put in place

A knowledge base built on your matters, shared filing, update rules.
