Give the general counsel a voice that counts, in the company and beyond

Senior management struggles to see what legal brings.

You will recognise it
  1. Legal is mentioned when a risk hits, rarely before.
  2. Your figures don’t speak the executive committee’s language.
  3. The legal budget is discussed as a cost.

What happens along the way cannot be seen.

On an engagement

2023-2024 · French healthcare group · 8 lawyers · 9 countries

The general counsel had plenty of data, but every presentation to the executive committee started from scratch: 26 slides, 18 indicators, ten days of preparation. After thirty minutes, a committee member asked: “Very good. But what decision do you expect from us?” There was none.

We rebuilt the reporting around five decisions the committee can take: allocate a resource, accept a risk, fund a workstream, prioritise a market, change a policy. Every figure had to answer one question: why does the committee need to know this? Over four committees, slides went from 26 to 9 and preparation from ten to three days.

What changes

The general counsel knows what the team is worth. Senior management does not necessarily see it the same way. What legal shows should answer the decisions the leadership committee can actually take.

What we put in place

Reporting rebuilt around the leadership committee’s decisions.
